Joe Biden administration has urged US citizens in Ukraine to leave the country immediately, citing the threat of Russian invasion amid on going crisis over eastern Europe.
In a pre-recorded message which was released on Thursday, US president Joe Biden is heard saying that” American citizens should leave now”.
” Its not like we are dealing with terrorists organization, we are dealing with one of the largest armies in the world. Its a very difficult situation and things could go crazy quickly” Joe Biden said.
Joe Biden also repeatedly said that under no circumstances he would deploy US military to Ukraine to evacuate or rescue US citizens in the event of Russian invasion.
“That’s world war, when Americans and Russians start shouting one another, we are in a very different world” Joe Biden said.
According to the advisory issued by state department, US citizens should not go to Ukraine due to increased threat of Russian invasion and covid-19, those in Ukraine should depart via commerical or private means.
The new guidelines also warned US citizens in Ukraine that US government will not be able to evacuate them in case of any Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine.
“Military action may commence at any time and without warning and would also severely impact US embassy’s ability to provide consular services, including assistance to US citizens in departing Ukraine” the statement said.
According to US and its allies, Russia has massed up 100,000 troops near Ukraine border which has caused fear among US, UK and Europe that the Russian military action against Ukraine is imminent.
Russia has denied reports that it wants to invade Ukraine but asked NATO not to allow Ukraine as a new member, the request denied by NATO.
Russia has also demanded that US and NATO give Moscow security guarantee that NATO will stop its expansion into former Soviet republics but NATO has rejected the demands as non-starters but instead offered to negotiate about arms control in Europe.
Russia has also been criticizing US for deploying missile defense systems in Poland and Romania as Moscow thinks those systems can be turned in to offensive weapons to attack Russia in a short notice.
So far Russia hasn’t invaded Ukraine but the situation has caused intense deplomatic efforts in Europe as means to avert the war that may be coming.
Sofar US and EU plus UK have been threatening Russia with sanctions never seen before if it invaded Ukraine but I don’t think sanction threat will prevent Russia from breaking up Ukraine if it feels that its national security is threatened.
If Ukraine decided to join NATO, it will be divided since Russia can’t allow NATO troops on its border.
