President Zelensky of Ukraine is playing with the lives of his people and increasing their suffering by prolonging the war he knows he can’t win.

The most important role of any leader is to protect the lives of people in any given country and as far as am concerned, president Zelensky of Ukraine is not doing a good job in his role as a leader of Ukraine.

Despite being presented as a hero and a war-like president who has stood up to Russia’s aggression by most western media and politicans, odds of winning a war aren’t in his favor and the longer the war goes on, the greater the destruction Ukraine will suffer and the more people will die.

Its important for any leader to want to defend his or her country but of what benefit is it for you if the country is destroyed and thousands of people killed or displaced, it makes a little sense unless you are fighting for something else.

The matter is made worse when you think that the possiblity of president Zelensky accepting Russians demands are high. How will he explain it to Ukrainians who lost their loved ones and property if the end is the same result as if he had agreed to negotiate in the first place.

War is never good way of solving issues to begin with but nevertheless leaders usually foolishly decide to take their countries into war which results in suffering of people from both sides and it doesn’t matter whether you are strong or small country since both sides must suffer casualties when the war starts.

According to UN, more than 2.8 million people have fled from their homes in Ukraine to neighboring countries like Poland and over 600 civilians with thousands of fighters from both sides have been killed since the war began.

The biggest question being asked is whether the war should have been avoided and the answer is yes. Since 2007, president Putin of Russia has been talking about Russia’s concerns regarding NATO expansion and Ukraine being turned into military fortresses against Russia by NATO but US-led NATO countries decided to ignore Russia’s concerns which has led current war in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government refusal to guarantee safety of Russians in Ukraine and treat them with respect, the refusal to implement Munich security arrangements and the development of offensive long range weapons on Ukraine soil while requesting for NATO membership failed to assure Russia.

When the war started, president Zelensky not only did he order citizens with no combat experience or military training to be given guns to fight the well equipped and well trained Russian troops but also declared martial law in the country preventing all males in Ukraine from leaving or seeking refugee outside the country. This equals to putting innocent lives of civilians on line which not appropriate and immoral.

Although Russia’s economy was greatly affected by the sanctions imposed by western countries, Ukraine economy can’t survive this war either and assume that this war ends tommorow, it will take alot of resources and time to rebuild it back to the way it was before the war started.

Leaders like Zelensky should have foreseen the consequences of fighting a war with Russia which is a much bigger and much more powerful country than Ukraine. This war was a war of choice, both leaders of Ukraine and Russia decided to fight but they could also have decided to negotiate and resolve all issues peacefully.

Ukraine which was already a poor country will become a failed state if the war continues which is unfortunate to most people watching how things unfolded and what’s happening now in the country.

We are not here to pass judgement but I think president Zelensky of Ukraine should have done better than this and it will be hard to sale him in future as a hero who defended Ukraine after all the suffering and pain people went through and the destruction the country suffered when it could have all been avoided at the beginning.

Its becomes hard and painful to think of what may come next if president Zelensky of Ukraine continues to resist as he is doing now because the more he resists, the more Russia’s military will intensify military attacks in Ukraine. That’s more death and more destruction which is not what many of us want to see.

Many countries have been destroyed almost to Stone age period due to pro-longed fighting and such examples can be found in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Somalia and more other countries where war has caused immerse suffering of the people.

Let’s pray that negotiations bares some fruits and the war ends.
