President Emmanuel Macron of France says president Putin of Russia and Joe Biden of US have agreed to meet in principle over Ukraine crisis as long as Putin doesn’t invade Ukraine.
Elysee palace on Monday released a statement saying that president Emmanuel Macron of France had pitched both leaders on a summit about” security and strategic stability of Europe”.
“President Joe Biden and president Vladimir Putin have accepted the principle of such summit,” stressing that it would be impossible to host such summit if Russia invaded Ukraine.
The west especially US and UK have been hyping up the Russian invasion of Ukraine for sometime now which has increased tensions in eastern Europe, affected stock markets and energy prices but many analysts and leaders have questioned the reliability and quality of CIA intelligence sources.
“The US is committed to Pursuing diplomacy until the moment an invasion begins, president Joe Biden accepted in principle a meeting with Vladimir Putin if an invasion hasn’t happened”, the white house press secretary Jen Psaki said.
Jen Psaki also said that” we are ready to impose swift and severe consequences should Russia instead choose war. And currently Russia appears to be continuing the preparation for full-scale assault on Ukraine very soon”.
According to president Emmanuel Macron’s office and white house, the ” substance” of the meeting will be worked on by US secretary of state Blinken and his counterpart Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia during a planned meeting which will likely take place on 24 Feb 2022.
With the largest war since world war II as Bros Johnson the British prime minister calls it continues room over the all of Europe, the meeting of the two heads of states of US and Russia seem to be aiming at discussing a new frame work for the security architecture of Europe which is what Russia has been asking for before the Ukraine crisis and has been accepted by French president Emmanuel Macron as genuine concerns on his visit to Moscow.
The announcement for the summit between Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin comes after series of phone calls by French president Emmanuel Macron to both leaders amid heightened tensions over a situation in eastern Europe.
This summit will come as a great relief to many countries especially in Europe even though tensions remain over Ukraine with the extension of Russia-Belaus military drills near a border with Ukraine indefinitely after shelling started in eastern Ukraine between government backed troops and Russia backed separatists.
The US and its allies especially UK continue to insist that Russia may invade Ukraine at any moment and US has asked its citizens in Russia to leave, this comes after Russia expelled deputy US ambassador to Moscow.
Russia’s security demands and guarantee are real and serious even though they have been rejected by NATO as non-starters, Russia says NATO promised not to expand eastwards after the fall of Soviet Union and has asked NATO not to admit new members to the organization especially Ukraine.
Even though NATO says it will not abandon its open door policy, it has found itself with no choice as continuing doing so will endanger the security of Europe it had promised to ensure since Russia has made it clear that its prepared to go to war with NATO inorder to protect its national security and that it wasn’t ready to see increased NATO troops along its border which is what will happen if Ukraine is admitted to the organization.
Russia has even found support from China which says that NATO should stop its east ward expansion and has called on US and NATO to take Russia security concerns seriously as it called on all concerned parties to resolve their differences through negotiations but not military means.
