China’s general customs officially noticed Lithuania that its beef, dairy products and beer would nolonger be allowed to enter Chinese market.

The announcement for the ban of beef, dairy products and beer from Lithuania is the lastest escalation in spat between two countries after Lithuania allowed Taiwan to open a new office in the country in its name.

China considers Taiwan a break away province and has promised to reunite it with the mainland either through peaceful means or by use of force if needed but will not allow Taiwan Independence.

According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, Lithuania should correct its mistake and return on the right path of recognizing one China principle.

But, Lithuania with the support of US says it won’t be bullied and has promised to fight on but this is a fight Lithuania knows clearly that it will lose at the end of day.

Lithuanian president Gitanas Nauseda recently regretted that Taiwan was allowed to open office in Vilnius its name with being consulted which has worsened relations with China.

According to recent polls, most people in Lithuania don’t support the move of recognizing Taiwan instead of China and they see the opening of Taiwan office in Vilnius in its name as unnecessary and wrong but Lithuanian foreign minister says he will fight on to make sure Taiwan office remains.

Lithuanian foreign minister has been going to Asia Pacific region in quest for friends who he thinks will help in spat with China and he has visited Singapore and Australia. Australia has its own trade disagreements with China and its support is assured but it will do little to help the situation Lithuania finds itself in right now.

Recently reports from Lithuania indicated that the country was planning to change the office name from Taiwan to Taiwanese people’s office but its clear that China will likely oppose it which means the dispute will continue.

EU which recognizes People’s Republic of China as a true representative of China and has affirmed one China policy, decided to take China to WTO instead of applying sanctions on China in fear of retailation.

Lithuania finds itself cought up between two super powers of China and US, which are contesting for global influence. US started the contest during Trump administration with trade war, sanctions and genocide accusations against China in 2018.

The China I know will slowly punish Lithuania until it accepts to change its foreign policy in regard to China but it won’t be easy since Lithuania is supported by angelo-saxon countries and EU.
