They say war is brutal and Ukraine has proven that because according to Russia’s ministry of defense, about 498 Russian soldiers were killed and 1600 others injured in the first week of fighting in Ukraine.
Russia started a military operation in Ukraine on 24 Feb 2022 in what president Putin of Russia called demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine and bringing those who have been killing both Ukrainians and Russians to justice.
The high Russian casualties are a result of Ukrainian soldiers hiding in the civilian building, using Western-supplied anti-tank weapons managing to ambush the first Russian military vehicles entering Ukrainian cities not expecting any resistance.
Russia’s ministry of defense says that it has reached all the families of soldiers killed in Ukraine during a military operation and that it was providing all the necessary assistance they needed.
Many analysts say that Russia’s high casualties are a result of Putin not wanting to destroy Ukraine’s infrastructure and also kill civilians since Russia has enough military power to destroy Ukraine in a few days if Putin decided.
The other reason is that the first Russian military personnel to enter many cities across Ukraine never expected resistance from local people but Russia’s military failed to notice 8 years of efforts by the west and Ukraine government to create a hostile population against Russia and how there was a need to be fought.
Russia’s military met with a hostile population upon reaching many urban centers in Ukraine and it has cost them a lot of interms of personal and military hardware.

If the situation remains like this, Putin will have no option except to destroy everything and rebuild in the future because he can’t accept failure in Ukraine as it may cost him so much. So it doesn’t matter long it may take, Ukraine will have to be either taken as a whole or broken into federal states or many different independent states.
Putin will not allow the government in Ukraine to stay in power unless they commit themselves to never think about joining NATO or developing and deploying weapons that can endanger Russia.
Its not yet known how many Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or wounded but the estimate puts it in thousands of soldiers killed and hundreds of thousands wounded. This can be seen in president Zelensky’s call to release all prisoners and calling on all those who want to fight Russia’s military in the world to come and join the fight.
According to recently released data by Russia’s ministry of defense, Russia’s Aerospace forces had carried out more than 1500 military infrastructure and facility targets by day 6 of fighting with around 47 aircrafts destroyed on the ground and 11 in air, 51 command and communication posts, 38 s-300, Buk-M1, and Osa air defense systems, 51 radar stations, 472 tanks and other armored vehicles, 62 multiple launch rocket systems, 206 field artillery prices, and mortars, 336 units of special military vehicles and 46 unmanned aerial vehicles.
