Pakistan has successfully test-fired a version of its indigenously developed Babur Cruise Missile 1B with an enhanced range.
It has a range of more than 900 km, twice the distance of earlier missiles of the same model.
The missile is capable of striking both land and sea targets with high accuracy and this will enhance the military capabilities of Pakistan.
Lieutenant General Nadeem Zaki Manj, who heads the Pakistan army’s strategic Plans Division said that the test would further strengthen Pakistan’s strategic deterrence.
President Arif Alvi, Prime minister Imran Khan, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff committee, and three services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on the conduct of the successful launch.
This missile launch comes a few days after India which is a long-time rival of Pakistan successfully tested its own next-generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Agni-P.
India and Pakistan have been rivals for decades and have also been in an arms race for decades with both countries having nuclear weapons and they have fought wars in 1948, 1965 and 1971 since independence.
