
As tensions continue over Ukraine, the Russian president Vladimir Putin today oversaw nuclear drills carried out by Russia’s strategic nuclear missile forces as worst crisis threatened to destabilize Europe.
Russia said that it successfully test-launched hypersonic and cruise missiles at sea and land based targets during the exercises.
President Putin and his counterpart president of Belarus Lukashenko sat in situation centre where they observed nuclear drills from screen.
Russia’s nuclear capable bombers, the Tu-22 M3 and submarines participated in wargames and the performance was objectives were confirmed after all missiles hit their targets.
Two ballistic missiles were launched, one from the site in Northwest Russia and another one from a submarine in Barents sea- both hitting their intended targets thousands of km away in the far East peninsula of Kamchatka.
These sophisticated military drills got Western leaders worried but Russia said the drills were normal exercises carried out by Russia’s strategic nuclear missile forces.
Russia was trying to send a clear message to the world especially Western countries that this wasn’t about only Ukraine and if a war brokeout, it was assured defeat.
Russia and USA posseses the largest nuclear warheads in the world and its said if those two countries ever fight a nuclear war, it would be mutual assured destruction as both have enough nuclear weapons to destroy each other many times and the world together.
