The ongoing russian military operation in Ukraine has worsened relations between Russia and US led west after the imposition of mother of all sanctions on Russia.
Russia’s foreign minister Lavrov said while talking to RT, a Russian state media TV that Russia has last any illusion about ever relaying on the west and Moscow will never accept the world order dominated by US which is acting like a sheriff seeking to call all shots in a saloon or bar.
Lavrov who is one of the most trusted Russia’s minister by Putin and has been in office since 2004 says the West’s reaction about Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine had illustrated that the west was dominated by the US and that EU was largely powerless.
“What the Americans wants is unipolar world which would not be like a global village but American village or maybe like a saloon or a bar where you know that the strongest call the shots”, Lavrov said.
Lavrov says that many countries such as China, India and Brazil don’t want to be ordered around by uncle Sam acting like a sheriff.
Russia’s special ministry operation in Ukraine has forced more 3 million people to flee into EU countries, killed thousands of people including fighters on both sides and increased fears of military confrontation between US-led NATO and Russia which may go nuclear causing world war III.
After Russia’s president Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operations in Ukraine, US and its allies imposed the toughest sanctions on Russia leading to fall of its currency, the rubble by 40% which has caused economic crisis and financial crisis.
Those sanctions imposed on Russia has to some extent backfired on US and its allies after high fuel prices and inflation increased not only the costs of doing business but also the costs of living.
After the fall of Soviet Union, Russia embraced western political system and economic system and hoped that it would be accepted by US-led west as equals but instead US enacted laws and policies which made sure Russia remained the enemy of US-led west.
After repeated efforts to join Europe led security arrangements without success, in 2008, Russia started thinking about moving and looking East by introducing Eurasia economic forum, joining Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) and Belt and Road Initiative Initiative after Ukraine coup in 2004.
Russia had hopes of creating accommodating relations with the west but after what happened in 2014 in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, those hopes faded quickly and Russia decided to look East to China and Asia for its economic growth.
Like what UK and US did after world war II of accommodating and helping each other to control the world, Russia hopes to create a new world order not dominated only by US and its allies but also by China India, Brazil and other emerging economies where its voice is equally heard.
In the interview, Lavrov said that president Emmanuel Macron’s dream of creating an independent Europe with fail because about 99% of countries in Europe has come under US control. He also said that even Germany has accepted US hegemony which gives France no chance of changing Europe into independent military and economic block.
There is no illusion that the world is changing but the question is where is it heading and is it changing for the better or worse.
