A projectile from Ukraine has destroyed a building at the border with Russia in the region of Rostov used by Russian border forces, the check point is near the frontier with the separatists in the lastest series of escalation of incidents in eastern Ukraine.
“At 9:50 am, unidentified projectile from Ukraine completely destroyed a border facility used by FSB border guard service in Rostov region around 150 m from the border with Ukraine”, the FSB said in the statement released.
A video published by FSB shows what appears to be a destroyed building near a dirt road in the village of scherbakovo.
The shelling comes after Ukraine government denied accusations by Russian backed separatists of increasied shelling from government held areas saying that it has given its soldiers strict orders ” not to escalate tensions in the region”. The problem here comes on what constitutes an escalation.
After the announcement by FSB of border shelling, Ukrainian military denied such reports and called them fake news.
“We couldn’t stop them from producing this fake news, but we always emphasize that we don’t shoot at civilian infrastructure or into some territory in Rostov region or whatever”, Ukraine military spokesperson Pavlo Kovalchuk told reporters.
Ukraine president Zelensky told the gathering at Munich security conference that the Russian backed separatists shelled a kindergarten school last week injuring two.
Reports of increased shelling from both sides started last week amid US accusation that Russia was preparing to invade Ukraine.
